Congratulations to Emilie on her beautiful quilt, and the award.
I want to tell you about a wonderful book now available for quilters. It's Nancy Zieman's Quick Column Quilts. This summer I received an advanced copy, and my little Emilie got to make a quilt from it.
What I love about this book is that there is something here for everyone. As the title suggests, the patterns are quick and the quilts are formed in columns. These are great projects for using up scraps as well as some unwind time where you don't want to do too much thinking.
Emilie picked the Carefree Columns Quilt. I think her favorite part was choosing fabric and arranging it. She said the hardest part was "keeping on the line" (sewing straight) and making quilt blocks (4-patches).

Wow, nothing like making it look easy, although I think the picture with the stuffed animal sleeping under it puts it over the top. Good job Emilie!

Emilie is lucky to be learning a great hobby at such a young age! She looks like she enjoys it. I love that you even helped her adapt it to fit her dolls' needs. I have a difficult time with that & I'm a "grown up." This would be a great book to try with my friend's daughter with whom I enjoy sharing my time & crafting knowledge. ;)

ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific job Emilie did on her first quilting project! I hadn't considered before how perfect these simple, snappy patterns would be for teaching my grandkids. Now I'm even more excited to get my own copy of this book!
