What's On Your Bed: Ellie Inspired

Such an honor today to host my sweet friend Laura of Ellie Inspired. You will be so inspired by her designs and she is PROLIFIC on creating patterns! How do you make so many? Like me, hers are available in paper and as downloads.

Hi there!!  I’m Laura Johnson, from Ellie Inspired patterns (www.ellieinspired.com).  I design patterns from newborns to tweens for boys and girls and matching doll patterns.  My patterns have a classic feel.  My goal with my patterns is to help moms clothe their children affordably or make some fun clothes to sell for their family.  I’m so excited to be a part of your “What’s On Your Bed?” series!  Funny story though…I was supposed to be here earlier but I told Melissa I was redoing my sewing room and my master bedroom and would like a little more time to finish before I took pics.  Soooooo….I finished my sewing room and I love it…..and I finished my quilt a little while ago….but I did NOT yet finish my bedroom!!  Ha!  I wasn’t about to ask for more time so here is my finished quilt:

Socks peeking below is always a nice touch.  Ha!  I actually finished this last year a little while ago and it’s been in our bedroom.  I love, love, love string quilts and I spent a lot of time on this one so I really got a chance to “bond” with it.

Here is the back:

I love the ice blue and dark brown colors.  Since I finished this, I have an embroidery machine so I’m excited to do some monogrammed sheets and accent pillows for the bed.

Sooooo….since I don’t have a finished bedroom to show you, let me show you the quilts I have made for my boys.  Ellie is still waiting on hers.  Poor Ellie…but we have a difference of opinion too.  I want to do this super adorable cherry gingham quilt I saw a pattern for, or a hot pink/orange string quilt.  She wants ballet shoes.  I will do the ballet shoes to make her happy …but I’m waiting for inspiration to hit so that I love it too.  Sounds like a summer project to me, doesn’t it?

Here’s my oldest.  He loves cowboy stuff so I did a rag quilt in denim and homespun and cowboy prints.  His curtain valances are denim with a suede fringed trim tied on with red bandanas to deer antlers.  J

Oh my word those crooked things on the wall are driving me crazy as I look at this picture!!  I painted this mural based on drawings from my dad’s sketch book which made it even more special to me.  It is time for a more grown up room for him now and he wants either a quilt all out of different boyish homespuns or all denim squares.

My next son loves everything John Deere so I did his rag quilt all out of John Deere flannel prints.  This one got to be quite expensive with all the licensed fabric.  I tried to sneak in as many solid flannel squares as I could.

I also painted a mural of one of my favorite paintings.  I changed it a little to give the boy blond hair like my son, add different animals and painted our house in the background which is off to the left and doesn’t show in this picture.

Finally my third son loves to go hunting with my husband and would live in camouflage if I let him so I started collecting any deer or hunting fabrics.  This was a huge challenge to try to get all the pieces to fit.  It was like a puzzle to get them all to work together.  I’m sure I broke 101 rules about piecing quilt tops but he loved it.  This was the first one I ever tried to stipple quilt and I have a long ways to go to become an expert…

And the back:

Thanks again for letting me visit today!!  I hope you will come visit me sometime too.  Today I have several new pattern releases at a special sale price that I hope you like!
