There was no traveling for us. There were no family members celebrating with us... it was just the perfect way to start off our lives together as a real family and start our own traditions. I'll never ever forget this Christmas. It was absolutely everything I've ever wanted and more. I even baked all the traditional Christmas meals and foods from my side of the family and then my husband made all the traditional meals and food from his side! All that food and only the 2 of us (and our 2 dogs and 17 month old daughter) to eat it all!
Thank you for sharing such a fun giveaway and for reminding me to smile on things of old :)sandandstarfishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08454017952109673174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-67874920233716218722010-01-08T13:37:33.860-06:002010-01-08T13:37:33.860-06:00melissa - i often drop in to read your blog and lo...melissa - i often drop in to read your blog and love your friendly style of writing.
one christmas morning when DS2 was about 11 he managed to badly cut his thumb while opening a present for DS3 so 3 children went to church alone (it's only next door!)
while DH stitched his son's thumb - a christmas none of us will forget!
love to you all
gill xGillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02608760953744169322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-38476768084714320882010-01-08T12:21:39.946-06:002010-01-08T12:21:39.946-06:00I just found your lovely blog and look forward to ...I just found your lovely blog and look forward to finding ideas for my fabric stash. Fabric and books are my "habits". Favorite Christmas memory, hmm. I have so many, but I remember 12 Christmases ago when I went w/my hubby to my dear Grandmother's house in FL w/my extended family. My grandfather had just passed away recently, but I had special news to share. I cross-stitched "Grandparents are God's gift to children" for my parents to tell them they were going to be grandparents for the 1st time! It was such a joyful gift, especially after a miscarriage and 2 years of waiting for that blessing who is now a terrific young man of 11 years!Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17809780192988888942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-72811376456588159022010-01-07T21:34:44.990-06:002010-01-07T21:34:44.990-06:00What a neat giveaway!
My favorite Christmas story...What a neat giveaway!

My favorite Christmas story this year is of my 3 year old daughter. We went to candlelight service Christmas Eve and the pastor was discussing what Christians should be doing for the work of the church not only at christmas but the entire year...my daughter stood up on the pew, started waving her hands and shouting, "I DO, I DO!!!"Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18176132142136003791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-57006377073036450932010-01-07T19:57:31.864-06:002010-01-07T19:57:31.864-06:00Melissa,
I have to tell you that every year ou...Melissa,

I have to tell you that every year our family has something happen around Christmas time. Like, the year I turned 16 - I choked on Christmas dinner and spent 8 hours in the hospital. Or the year that my husband was on workers comp and my family was blessed with the angel tree gifts, followed by the complete tragedy of my home burning completely down due to an elegctrical fire. But the most memorable Christmas is the one where my Dad passed out 10 days before Christmas from a bleeding ulcer. The doctors said that he had lost 4 pints of blood (your body only has 5) and he was released to us on Christmas day. Spending the day with Dad was the best gift ever.

I so hope that if I win, I could receive the embroidery kit as I have not restocked my craft supplies from the fire and the verses would help us all remember the blessings God gives us.Suzy's Sevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17946342940378394881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-48815506926351421762010-01-07T15:27:27.537-06:002010-01-07T15:27:27.537-06:00Well Melissa, I must confess that I am quite intim...Well Melissa, I must confess that I am quite intimidated to even leave a message due to the fact that I don't know how to sew AT ALL!!! However, a precious friend gave me her old sewing machine and my daughter told me we could learn together. We spotted your wonderful 'recipe' for the little aprons, chef hats, and aprons and we've decided to tackle a project. Any fabric would be appreciated greatly since we actually don't have any. If you have any left we would love to start our project with fabric from your storehouse.

As for a story of Christmas, we try every year to connect our family Christmas celebration to the birth of Christ in a tangible way. Last year we modeled our gifts after the wise men with a gift of 'gold', 'frankincense', and 'myrrh'. This year we placed verses on each gift that told the kids why we bought them that particular gift. A gift to honor the unique person God created them to be, a gift of joy to give them laughter, a gift for their body to honor Him, a gift for the man or woman of God they have been created to be, a gift for their ears to honor God by what they hear, and a gift for their mind to be focused on God.

Thank you for sharing your gifts so generously with us all. Blessings on your new year.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01864811417033846739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-58937402666621439162010-01-07T14:32:51.523-06:002010-01-07T14:32:51.523-06:00I am in no need of fabric for this year, but I wan...I am in no need of fabric for this year, but I wanted to let you know that your words have been quite inspiring.

when you sew for others, everything else tends to take a back seat...

An etsy shop is in the works, but since I will be putting there things that I have sewn and other items, I don't feel any pressure and my hubby thinks it is a great idea ;-)

May the Lord continue to bless you and your lovely family,

mariaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-4048533305355786892010-01-06T21:55:31.115-06:002010-01-06T21:55:31.115-06:00I am so glad to read that family will be your prim...I am so glad to read that family will be your primary concern this year. A beautiful life is one that will pay off more than anything else you do.

I would love some of your blues as I am working on a blue and yellow quilt. Blues aren't really my thing, but it is something that I have always wanted to do. Strange...I know.

Funniest story? Probably would be when I had such an intersting sounding box under the tree and it was really bugging me to know what was inside. When my parents were out one evening, I actually opened it and rewrapped it. Your kids are adorable and your work is beautiful.

If you are looking for a home for fabric, I am working on a design for a large car/play mat for my kids - with a fire station, grocery store, church, hospital etc.. if there are any pieces that would make some cute buildings, houses, awnings, etc.. that would be really fun - thanks.

I don't really have a favourite Christmas story. From my childhood, I always loved getting together with some extended family or with the local Young Peoples from church for a sledding party after the Christmas day service. Right now our kids are still really young and we haven't started any of those great traditions but we look forward to building lasting memories with our kids that make Christmas time a special time of year as we remember our Saviour's birth!lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17826183601946264958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-65186369889380420992010-01-06T20:20:03.944-06:002010-01-06T20:20:03.944-06:00Hi there! We live in Alaska and it gets down to -34 and we have school! My clutch would stick in the car driving there. Our kids go out to recess until it is -10! I used to work at the school and go out to recess with my kids, I would wear all the snow gear a scarf around my face and hat so all you could see were my eyes. The kids do great they run around and stay warm! And we barely ever have a snow day where school is cancelled. We did have one where some children unplugged the block heaters on the buses so they could not start and had to cancel school, and one other time when we had freezing rain and roads were pure ice! We normally drive on ice but not that bad! I love reading other people's stories of the cold weather! I guess you just get used to it when it happens everyday. I am from California where it never snows! And at 30 here we don't wear coats, and at 60 we go in the lake! Never thought that would I do that. Have fun with your family! I love just sewing for my girl and friends. As a dairy farmer's wife I appreciate the farmstead views! This Christmas was probably one of the best our family has had! Celebrating Jesus's birth and spending time with friends and family was the most important and the best part of our Christmas season. The funniest part however was my son's performance in our church's Christmas pageant. Wyatt (not quite 2 yet) was to stand on the stage with all the other children and sing "Away in a Manger," to which he only could say the words way, no, bed, lay, and HAY! During our practices he would always say these words a good 5 seconds later, however during the live performance he decided he was thristy and would shrug his shoulders, hold his little hands up and say "MY CUP, MY CUP." Our whole section of the church laughed as he stood on the front row more concerned about the safety and whereabouts of his cup! Again thanks for the wonderful blog and sharing great tips with everyone!SC FarmWifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11112112784586943571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-48308594107583487232010-01-06T20:14:34.387-06:002010-01-06T20:14:34.387-06:00What a very sweet and generous offer to share some...What a very sweet and generous offer to share some of your fabric. I can't think of any really funny Christmas story, but the most amazing one was the year my hubby gave me 5 envelopes for Christmas. The first envelope was for a hotel reservation. The second one was for an airline ticket. The third one was for a car rental. The fourth one was an membership for AQS. And finally the fifth one was for a couple of classes that he signed me up for to go to Paducah!!! I was so floored that he would take all those steps for me to enjoy what I love to do. Quilt! He's quite a guy ;-)Jocelynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02714577523744715551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-74530260498756509082010-01-06T19:19:55.707-06:002010-01-06T19:19:55.707-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Crafty Brooklyn Army Wifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00357851728044890157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-65714899571953172022010-01-06T18:23:48.817-06:002010-01-06T18:23:48.817-06:00I just want to say that the pictures of a frost co...I just want to say that the pictures of a frost covered Lilac Lane look AMAZING.. it so beautiful there.

I know that the cold would be unbarable for AUssie me, but oh I would so love to live somewhere like that :)Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07677924849486435804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7333305997336514656.post-119594495402300852010-01-06T18:22:48.417-06:002010-01-06T18:22:48.417-06:00Hi Melissa...so good to see others sharing their e...Hi Melissa...so good to see others sharing their excess! love your ideas about making your home beautiful.

We didn't do tons of toys this year at Christmas, and it warms my heart that my kids were just pleased as punch with what they did get.
