County Fair

Wow! What an exhausting (but fun) week.
Getting judged on woodworking. (Nathan won Grand Champion!)

And judged on Rocketry.

The 4-H float in the parade.

My niece and nephew drove an antique tractor.

The girls rode on a dance float.

Nathan dared to ride a lamb.

Everyone tried the tractor pull. We will be attending the state fair in that event!

Anna loves her calf Snowball.

Nathan showing his calf Bucky.

Anna and Snowball. I bet you wouldn't believe she picked out her clothes and accessories all by herself.

Anna talks with the judge.

Back to School in Style Sponsor 3: A Girl's World

Oh yes, you heard right. Jennifer Paganelli is our third sponsor of Back to School in Style! And the randomly drawn winner will receive a signed copy of A Girl's World, Jennifer's beautiful book. I love this book! It is full of inspirational photos, beautiful dresses and lots of accessory ideas. I plan to make one of the patterns in it for Back to School in Style.

Do you know what this means? Not only does your child or grandchild or niece or nephew or neighbor or whomever get beautiful clothing and school gear, but you also have THREE chances to win wonderful prizes! It could be a gift certificate to Skye Reve's fabric, a subscription to the Fat Quarterly or Jennifer Paganelli's book A Girl's World. Don't delay, join the flickr group today. All rules can be found here. It's almost time to start!

Back to School in Style Sponsor 2: Fat Quarterly!

It's time to talk about the Back to School in Style Challenge again. Have you heard about it? It will be held right here at Lilac Lane in the month of August. The idea is that you find a partner to keep you accountable and between the two of you, decide on some back to school outfits or gear to make for a little one. You make one pattern while your partner makes the other and then you switch! Two bangs for your buck. Plus, you'll have someone to turn to if you hit a snag in the pattern. The only rules are:
1. It has to be made between August 1 and August 26, 2011 (on your honor.)
2. You have to post a finished picture to the flickr page.
3. It has to be made by you.
and 4. You don't HAVE to have a partner, but it sure will be more fun that way.

The winners will be randomly drawn on August 27.
So grab the button on the sidebar, join the Back to School in Style flickr group and start planning!

In the meantime, look at this: You can win a year's subscription to the Fat Quarterly! Don't forget about the $20 gift certificate to Skye Reve Fabrics, and I have one more sponsor to reveal, so stay tuned!

xoxo

Here we are with another Monday! My goodness this quiltalong is flying by. You are in for a treat this week, as it's my other "favorite" row. AnneMarie of Gen X Quilters has designed a beautiful row for you. It's SO versatile and I can't wait to see all the things you creative people come up with in the flickr group.

Back to School in Style Challenge

Mark you calendars! The Back to School in Style Challenge is coming! In the month of August, we need to get ready for school. I decided to accomplish this, I would make a little challenge. Grab an accountability partner. This challenge is not about quantity. It's not even about quality -- although that is important. Rather it's about getting it done! You and a partner will each choose a pattern -- for an outfit, a backpack, a lunch sack, a jacket etc etc -- and then you will switch patterns. My partner is my friend Marie who I talk about often on this blog. Of course there will be prizes: a fabric gift certificate, a subscription to a magazine, even a signed copy of a book! More on that later. For now, grab your partner, pick your patterns and get your supplies. You can put the button on your blog. And go ahead and join our flickr group: Back to School in Style Challenge.

Oh, need a little inspiration? Here's Emilie modeling Simplicity 4262.
I added the flower from the Joy Bag pattern.
 Don't you LOVE that pocket?

You can flip up the brim on that cute hat.

 And it's completely reversible!
The fabrics are Lonni Rossi's Viviana which I found in Chapman, Kansas.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.  1 John 1:7

A Fabric Design Talk

Patty has the most beautiful table decorations. She had purses in honor of my purses and flowers because I like flowers. They were filled with jelly beans. (We brought some home for the girls' dolls.)
 It was a full crowd.
I brought the strikeoffs from Honey Sweet.
I also showed all the products which are for sale at QuiltWoman.com.
Then I had a trunk show. That was fun and I hope I did it right since I've never been to a trunk show before.
I look kind of mean here. :)
They closely scrutinized my work. I hope it checked out!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10 NIV

Rockin Robin Week 3: Little Houses

I'm so excited to share one of my favorite rows of the Rockin Robin quilt with you today! This row was designed by Heather and Megan of Quiltstory. You know them right? They show off lots of beautiful quilts and have their own pattern line of gorgeous patterns, which debuted at market this past spring.

The whole time I was sewing this row, I could hear, "Love grows best in little houses . . ." in my head.

How is your quilt coming? I've almost finished my quilting. I know, not fair, huh? But you're getting closer with each week. Don't forget the wonderful prizes you can win for finishing the quilt:
There will be two of these great gift certificates from the Fat Quarter Shop.

Or you could win this bundle from the Fabric Shoppe:

Visit Quiltstory for the tutorial!

And then visit these wonderful ladies for more inspiration:
AnneMarie of Gen X Quilters

Now sew up your row and post it to the Rockin Robin flickr group!

Love,
xoxo
