Feature Friday: April of Wildflowers & Whimsy

I'm not sure if you missed Feature Friday last week with all the giveaway madness, going on. But I'm so happy to introduce you to April this week. If you love kids clothes, you will love April!

Hi!  I'm April from  Wildflowers & WhimsyI am so excited to be here on Melissa's blog today!

So, a little bit about me....I am a wife and mommy to two sweet little boys and one very outspoken little girl...all 4 years  and under.  I plan on homeschooling, but since they aren't of school age yet, I spend a lot of time sewing and crafting, and they spend a lot of time, ehem, "helping".   Which basically means they pulled the thread out of my sewing maching when I wasn't looking or like the time I left my scissors out by accident and Sophie cut up part of a dress I was working on...seriously, I was out of the room for two minutes!  How do they get into these things so quickly?!?

This is my oldest.  He's a sweetie pie.

My one and only girl...
and my little model

My sweet baby...he's a handful!  He climbs everything!  It's quite often I find him balancing on window, seriously...

My blog is mostly about my sewing and crafting projects with some of my  attempts at photography (here and here and more here) and even a little modeling (lol! like here  and here) thrown in.  I started a linky party called Sew Crafty Saturday where you can link up whatever crafts, sewing, cooking, decorating, etc you have been working on each week.  I love being inspired to push myself outside of my comfort zone by all of the amazingly talented women out in blogland.  I am also starting to posting free sewing patterns  because eventually when my kids are older I would like to make and sell my own patterns and I figure it would be good practice and a nice way to get input on my designs...or who knows maybe by then I'll live at the beach and I'll just keep doing it for free because I am too busy hanging out on the beach to run a business... : )  Ahh, yes!  That would be pretty nice...

This is my latest design.  You can find the pattern and tutorial here

BTW: If you have trouble downloading email me and I will send it to you through email...sometimes the links don't work for some reason...

Here are some of my readers favorites....

These were for a friend's dog...we don't have one  :(

These are some of the patterns I am currently working on that will be made available for free download on my blog:

I also do a lot of sewing for my local fabric shop, so I try to write reviews of the patterns and include tips on areas where I had trouble.
Like with this Princess Bella Dress...

And I just have to share one more pic with you before I go.   Last December I had the honor of making my  nanny's wedding dress (btw~when I say Nanny I mean godmother!  I am not a SAHM with a nanny as one lady thought....but a girl can   The satin was a little difficult to work with especially considering it was my first time, but I really enjoyed making it, and I think it turned out beautiful....

I hope you'll stop by my blog, and I love discovering new blogs, so make sure you leave me a comment so I can hop over and visit your corner of blogland!

Thank you so much April!

How About Another Sneak Peek?

Ah Photobucket. Looks like they're down again. I might have to think about moving my banner someplace else. Anyway, I thought maybe it was about time for another sneak peek of my quilt for McCalls Quick Quilts. Although it will be in the November issue, I am told it will hit newsstands in August. Just over three months away. Now that's hard to believe!

My quilt labels from Spoonflower didn't come in time, so I had to write it out myself.

Isn't it pretty? This is a pretty good peek! Only 9 fabrics in the entire quilt -- and that's pretty few for a scrappy girl.

Pretty Things

I thought you might like to see my birthday presents.

Marie gave me this necklace. I added the penny so you can see how dainty it is.

This sign is from my friend Jada. It's about a foot square.

A new mixer attachment for my KitchenAid from my mom.

Marie made this purse for me. Isn't it just adorable?
Thank you to all of you for sharing my birthday. It was really special.

Visit Me at Quiltstory and a Huge Announcement!

My Road to Redemption Quilt is being featured on Quilt Story today. I am so in love with their site, always inspired by the quilts they feature and honored to be included today! Stop by and tell them I sent you.

And for those of you who have been praying for me since this post, thank you so much! I've known this for about a week and a half, but now it's really official. I'm happy to announce that I'm once again a fabric designer! Well, my husband says that I always was one, but it's official . . . and I'm so thrilled to be with a wonderful company. Friday night I signed a contract with Andover Fabric. I can't thank them enough for giving me this opportunity. God is good! All the time. And now I can't wait to show you the fabric. :)

My favorite verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6

the Bunny Hop

Emilie's Easter dress is finished! Hooray. I thought you'd all like to see . . .

I told her to make a funny face.

The sash is that velvet ribbon I picked up at Allyn's in Denver. I dyed the skirt with a combination of purple and navy blue and left it a LONG time. Came out exactly the shade I wanted. Isn't she adorable? Happy Easter!

Scrap Giveaway Winners!

Winner #1: Kathie said...

Scrappy quilts are my weakness. The bigger would be better than the strings because I'm not into string quilts (yet!) Thanks for thinking of us. Kathie L in Allentown

Yay Kathie! Just send me your address.

Winner #2: Val Miller said...

yummmmm scraps!!! I would be thrilled with either.

Great Val! Just send me your address. So, all the giveaways are finished now. Time for Easter and reflection on Christ.

He was despised and rejected by mankind,

a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
Isaiah 53: 3-7

Blogaversary Giveaway: Scraps

The giveaway is now closed.
I'm overrun with scraps. Must declutter!!!!! So, if you would like some, I'm giving away a box of string scraps and a box of bigger scraps -- not necessarily the ones in the pictures. Let me know in your comment which one will work for you (if it's both that's fine too!) I'll draw tomorrow morning and the comments close at 8 AM CST.

Now on to the Easter dress. I must conquer that today!

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one. - John 10:28-30

Blogaversary Giveaway: Funky. Vintage. Lovely.

The contest is closed. Thank you for entering.
Good morning! Suppose we stop the fabric gifts for a moment. Is that okay? Every girl needs jewelry, right? And my friend April from Funky Vintage Lovely has offered us something funky, vintage and lovely from her shop.

First a little about April. What really drew me to April is how she lets it all hang out. She tells you all about her marriage and her special needs son. She doesn't come across as perfect, but extremely loving and gracious. I like that! Her husband even guest blogs for her sometimes. Now how many of us can say that?
She gets to go to awesome conferences like Creative Estates and has been nomiated as the Cirlcle of Moms Top 25. (You can vote for her.) And she's so darn cute!

And then I found her shop. Oh. My. Goodness.

I bought this:

and this:

And now April is offering this to one of you:

a lotus drop necklace of your very own

AND 10% off to all of you this week!!! Just use the code SPRING10.

So you could get any of these:

How to enter:
For one entry, leave a comment.
For another entry, visit April's shop and then come back and tell me what your favorite thing is.
For a third entry, blog, tweet or facebook about it and come back and leave me a comment telling me you did.

Another Riley Blake Giveaway

The contest is closed. Thanks for entering.
Wow! Thanks to everyone for the sweet birthday wishes. I try to respond to each comment, but if you're a "no-reply" blogger, I can't do that. All you have to do is change in your profile to show e-mail address.

Once in awhile, my husband does get behind the camera.
If you're thinking that I must really be a Riley Blake fan, well, you're right. They are just so nice. Ever since I made the Summer Song Sundress pattern for them, we have been friends. So when they offered to send me just or almost released fabric for my two new patterns, I was more than happy to take them up on it.

I used Lori Holt's Sew Cherry and Zoe Pearn's Sweet Nothings. Beautiful. Both of them. And I have some left over. I don't believe Sew Cherry has been released quite yet, but you can own a little bit. Now most of my yardage is Sweet Nothings and these are scraps. Altogether, you get about two yards.

Today, it's winner take all. Just leave me a comment by 8 AM CST Wednesday. Good luck!

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.- 1 Corinthians 15:20-22
