My Pretty Garden

This garden is a seven year project. I have four or five feet all the way around my porch, which is three sides of my house and then a big square flower garden in addition. Yes, all of this is just flowers.
This is my gardening style, see if it sounds familiar. I buy only perennials and then plant them where ever, without regard to color or height. Each year I add a few plants if they're needed. Sometimes I throw out packs of wildflower seeds just to see what grows. I do not thin. I do not deadhead. I just let God decide what works. It's a pretty easy garden, but I've always had beautiful results.
I do have a nice watering system (we are very dry) which is soaker hoses hooked up to our lawn system. In all honesty, I only turn it on a few times a year -- even less for the lawn which actually died this year. That means we get more buffalo grass, and I guess that's ok. Once a year, I prune everything, usually in the spring. And I try to weed at least once a week. But when you have a meadow of perennials, it's pretty easy to keep the weeds out. If something takes over, I just decide it's ok. Does this sound like my scrappy quilting style at all?
Love to you all this weekend. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

Love,

  2. Love your style - similar to mine. What are those blue flowers around the peonies (?) - so delicate and a great color combination.

  3. Sounds a great system!
Are the pretty blue flowers linum (flax)??? I've tried to grow them but our soil is too heavy for them

  4. Love your garden...my peonies are just budded right now...later here...I deal with mainly perenials. Less expense; most of the time..lol. I have to stop adding to it...it takes me weeks to weed. By the time I finish it is time to start over...But I love it..I just finished weeding and mulching all of them this week...fed them this morning...good luck with yours.

  5. I like your gardening style! I do pretty much the same, except that we have no sunshine around our house (many trees). :)

  6. OH, I don't garden..but whenever I start, this is the style I'll adopt. The pink roses are gorgeous and then seeing those purply flowers interspersed..very cute :) :) I like the idea of just letting the seeds fall where they may, to see what grows :) :) Have a great weekend. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
